1. Intended Application

This prewired electrical kit provided by Serg Supply is designed to assist with the installation of electrical systems in camper vans, recreational vehicles, and similar mobile applications.

The included wiring sizes, connectors, and components are selected based on typical electrical loads commonly found in camper van conversions, including lighting circuits, refrigeration, ventilation, small appliances, electronics, and battery charging equipment.

If a user installs appliances, chargers, heaters, inverters, battery systems, or other electrical equipment with operating currents that exceed normal or anticipated loads, it is the sole responsibility of the installer to verify that the wiring used is properly sized and protected.

Under no circumstances should any wire supplied by Serg Supply be used in an application where the conductor size is undersized for the intended current load, voltage drop requirement, or installation conditions.

Improper conductor sizing may result in overheating, insulation failure, electrical fire, equipment damage, or personal injury.

2. Load Calculations and Wire Sizing Responsibility

The installer is solely responsible for verifying the electrical requirements of all connected appliances and devices prior to installation.

Customers are strongly advised to verify conductor sizing using a recognized mobile electrical wiring calculator, such as an ABYC-style voltage drop calculator, before energizing any circuit.

Important factors that must be considered include:

• Continuous current draw
• Peak current draw
• Wire length
• Allowable voltage drop
• Ambient temperature
• Bundling of conductors
• Installation environment

If a customer intends to operate equipment that requires greater current than the wiring included with this Serg Supply kit is rated for, the installer must obtain appropriately sized wiring prior to installation.

If there is uncertainty regarding proper wire sizing, the installer should contact Serg Supply or consult a qualified electrician before proceeding.

3. Compliance With Electrical Standards

Installers are responsible for ensuring that their electrical installation complies with all applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to recreational vehicles and mobile electrical systems.

Installations should follow recognized safety practices including those referenced by **Recreational Vehicle Industry Association and **NFPA 1192.

Serg Supply does not certify that any specific installation using this kit will meet any regulatory requirement, inspection standard, or certification program.

Compliance with safety standards depends entirely on installer workmanship, appliance selection, and system configuration.

4. Circuit Protection Requirements

All electrical circuits must be protected with properly sized overcurrent protection devices.

Failure to properly protect electrical circuits may result in wire overheating, electrical fire, or equipment damage.

Installers must ensure the following:

• All 12-volt DC circuits are protected by appropriately sized fuses or circuit breakers matched to the wire size and appliance load.
• All 120-volt AC circuits are protected by properly rated circuit breakers.
• Included AC receptacles are rated for a maximum of 20 amps and must not be connected to circuits exceeding this rating.
• Overcurrent protection must be installed as close as practical to the power source.

Breaker and fuse sizing must be determined based on wire size, circuit length, and appliance specifications.

5. Alternator Charging and DC-DC Charger Installation

When installing a DC-DC charger or alternator charging system, additional safety requirements apply.

Vehicle manufacturers use different electrical architectures and charging systems. Improper connections may result in vehicle damage, charging system malfunction, electrical fire, or voided vehicle warranties.

Installers must:

• Reference the vehicle manufacturer’s service or build manual
• Confirm approved connection points
• Verify proper wire sizing for the selected charger
• Ensure the alternator and battery systems are not overloaded

An appropriately sized fuse or circuit breaker must be installed as close to the power source as possible when connecting alternator power.

Serg Supply strongly recommends grounding the auxiliary electrical system to the vehicle chassis when installing DC-DC charging equipment.

6. Grounding Requirements

Proper grounding is essential for safe operation of electrical systems.

Ground connections must:

• Be attached to approved vehicle chassis grounding locations
• Be installed on clean bare metal
• Use properly sized hardware and terminals
• Be protected with corrosion-resistant coating or rust-preventative spray after installation

Improper grounding may result in system malfunction, overheating, electrical faults, or fire hazards.

7. Safe Wire Routing and Mechanical Protection

The installer is solely responsible for ensuring wiring is routed in a manner that prevents abrasion, crushing, puncture, or exposure to sharp edges.

Installers must ensure that:

• Wiring never contacts bare metal edges
• Wire pass-through points are protected using grommets, conduit, or trim-lock
• Protective wire loom remains intact and undamaged
• Wiring is secured to prevent movement and vibration damage
• Wires are routed away from heat sources and moving components

Failure to properly protect wiring may result in insulation failure and electrical fire.

8. Protection From Installation Damage

Extreme care must be taken to ensure wiring is not damaged during installation.

Common causes of electrical system failure include damage from:

• Mounting screws
• Rivets
• Cabinetry fasteners
• Flooring fasteners
• Panel installation hardware

If wiring supplied by Serg Supply becomes punctured, crushed, torn, or otherwise compromised during installation, it must be repaired or replaced before energizing the circuit.

9. Connector Installation and Verification

All connectors must be fully seated and verified prior to final installation.

Installers must perform a minimum 10-pound pull test on all crimped or inserted conductors to verify proper mechanical retention.

Loose electrical connections can cause high-resistance joints that may result in overheating, arcing, and electrical failure.

10. Lever-Nut and Splice Connections

Where lever-nut or similar splice connectors are used:

• Ensure conductors are fully inserted
• Verify the correct stripped conductor length
• Confirm insulation is not inside the clamping area

Once final installation is complete, sealing these connections with heat-shrink tubing is recommended to improve vibration resistance and long-term reliability.

11. AC Electrical Safety and Outlet Testing

All 120-volt AC receptacles must be inspected before energizing the system.

Installers must verify:

• Tight terminal connections
• Proper wire strip length
• Correct polarity
• Secure grounding connections

After the system is energized, each outlet must be tested using a standard AC outlet tester to confirm:

• No open ground
• No open neutral
• No reversed polarity

Improper AC wiring may create a severe electric shock hazard.

12. Bench Testing Requirement

All electrical components and circuits should be bench tested prior to permanent installation.

Testing should occur before installing interior walls, ceilings, or flooring panels.

Permanent installation should not proceed until the electrical system has been verified to operate correctly.

13. Professional Installation Recommendation

Vehicle electrical systems present unique hazards due to vibration, confined spaces, and high-current battery systems.

If the installer lacks sufficient electrical knowledge or experience, Serg Supply strongly recommends that installation be performed or inspected by a qualified electrician or professional RV technician.
